New Year Message

It is with great pleasure I add this message on account of the dawn of Sinhala-Hindu New year which symbolises the Sri Lankan’s prime cultural festival which brings peace, happiness and prosperity to their lives.

The New Year is important not only because the sun transits from the house of Pisces (Meena Rashiya) to the house of Aries (Mesha Rashiya) but also since it is a very special function which turns on a new page of the lives of Sri Lankans. The Sri Lankans just after their new harvest perform all the New Year rituals at the same auspicious time exhibiting their harmony and collaboration.

As privileged two nations, Sri Lankans should be determined to make a meaningful cultural festival out of Sinhala-Hindu New Year just not focusing on mere celebrations. We all have been entrusted with the responsibility of building our nation with the inspiration of the Sri Lankan culture and our own identity. It is teamwork and all the nations should make their contribution irrespective of their races, religions, politics, castes or colour.

As no one could ever predict, under his able leadership, HE the president was able to end up the war that the whole country was set on fire for 30 years period. Following the victory, we are now on our way towards the development of our country at global level.

In parallel to the global programme to achieve millennium development goals, our government has launched many projects targeting economic, social and cultural developments with the objective of uplifting the country to a higher elevation at global level. Further, it supports the existence of an economically and spiritually developed nation in the country. During the past few years, HE the President has provided his leadership for several development activities which are similar to giant projects implemented for several years by our ancient kings ruled our country.

Now as Sri Lankans, you have been gifted with the opportunity to materializing your new hopes of the New Year while safeguarding goods wishes, good customs and social and cultural values.

Today is the day that brings smiles on to your faces for a lucky future. I wish you a very happy new year filled with peace, happiness and prosperity. Wish you a fabulous future.

සුභාශිංසන පණිවුඩය

සාමය, සතුට සහ සෞභාග්‍යය ගෙන එන ශ්‍රී ලාංකීය හෙළ සංස්කෘතික මංගල්‍යය වන සිංහල - හින්දු අලුත් අවුරුදු උදාව නිමිත්තෙන් සුභපැතුම් එක් කරන්නේ හදපිරි සතුටිනි.

සූර්යයා මීන රාශියේ සිට මේෂ රාශි ගතවීම නව වසරක් උදාවීම පමණක් නොව, එය ශ්‍රී ලාංකිකයන්ගේ ජීවිතයේ නව පිටුවක් සනිටුහන් වන සුවිශේෂී අවස්ථාවකි.  නැවුම් අස්වනු නෙළාගත් හෙළවැසියන් සුභ මොහොතින් සියලු චාරිත්‍ර වාරිත්‍ර ආරම්භ කිරීම අ‍පගේ සමගිය හා සාමූහිකත්වයේ සංකේතයයි. 

භාග්‍යසම්පන්න ජාතියක් වශයෙන් සිංහල - දමිළ ජාතිකයන් උදාවූ අලුත් අවුරුද්ද හුදු සැණකෙළියක් බවට පත් නොකොට අර්ථවත් මහා සංස්කෘතික මංගල්‍යයක් බවට පත්කර ගැනීමට තරයේ අදිටන් කරගත යුතුය.  දේශීය සංස්කෘතිය හා අපට අනන්‍ය සභ්‍යත්වය මගින් එකමුතුව දේශය ගොඩනැගීමේ වගකීමක් අප සියල්ලන්ටම පැවරී තිබේ. එය සාමූහික දායකත්වයක් වන අතර, ඒ සඳහා ජාති, ආගම්, දේශපාලන, කුල හා වර්ග භේදයෙන් තොරව සෑම ජන කොට්ඨාසයකම සහයෝගය ලැබිය යුතුය.

තිස් වසරක් තිස්සේ රට බියෙන් දවාලූ කිසිදා නිමා කළ නොහැකි යැයි සිතූ කුරිරු ත්‍රස්තවාදය සදහටම නිමා කිරීමට අතිගරු ජනාධිපති මහින්ද රාජපක්ෂ මැතිතුමා අභීතව නායකත්වය සැපයීය. යුද්ධය නිමා කිරීමත් සමග රට ගෝලීය වශයෙන් සංවර්ධනය කිරීමේ යෝධ මාවතට අප මේ වන විට අවතීර්ණය වී තිබේ.

සහශ්‍ර සංවර්ධන ඉලක්ක සාක්ෂාත් කර ගැනීමේ ගෝලීය වැඩසටහනට සමගාමීව ආර්ථික, සමාජීය හා සංස්කෘතික සංවර්ධනය උදෙසා ව්‍යාපෘති රැසක් අප රජය මගින් දියත් කර තිබෙන්නේ ගෝලීය වශයෙන් රට දියුණු මට්ටමකට රැගෙන ඒමටය.  එමෙන්ම, ආර්ථික හා ආධ්‍යාත්මික වශයෙන් දියුණු වූ ජන කොට්ඨාසයක් මෙරටෙහි ජීවත් කරලීම සඳහා ද එය ඉවහල් වේ. අභීත රජ දරුවන් වසර ගණනාවක සිට කරන ලද දැවැන්ත ව්‍යාපෘති හා සමාන සංවර්ධන කාර්ය භාරයක්, ගත වූ වසර කිහිපයේ දී අතිගරු ජනාධිපති මහින්ද රාජපක්ෂ මැතිතුමාගේ නායකත්වයෙන් දියත් කර තිබේ.

යහපත් ප්‍රාර්ථනා, යහපත් සිරිත් විරිත් සහ සමාජීය  හා සංස්කෘතිය ආරක්ෂා කර ගනිමින් උදාවූ නව වසර පිළිබඳව නැවුම් බලාපොරොත්තු සඵල කර ගැනීමේ අවස්ථාව මේ වන විට ශ්‍රී ලාංකීය ඔබට උදාවී තිබේ.

ඒ භාග්‍යවන්ත අනාගතය උදෙසා මුවට හසරැල් නැංවෙන නැවුම් දිනය අදයි.  උදා වූ සිංහල හා හින්දු අලුත් අවුරුද්ද සාමය, සතුට, සෞභාග්‍යය පිරි ශ්‍රී සුභ නව වසරක් වේවා! යි ප්‍රාර්ථනා කරමි. සැමට සුභ අනාගතයක්.
