It has been decided to conduct the
State Vesak Festival in Monergala district, this year.
Accordingly, 57th Vesak
Festival will be held at Yudaganawa Raja Maha Vihara premises, Buttala in
Moneragala district. With the directives of HE the President, this festival
will be held under the guidance of the Prime Minister and the Minister of
Buddhasasana & Religious Affairs.
Ministry of Buddhasasana &
Religious Affairs, Department of Buddhist Affairs, Moneragala District
Secretariat, Uva Province Chief Secretariat, Buttala Divisional Secretariat and
Pradeshiya Sabha, Samastha Lanka Shasanarakshaka Balamandaya, and many other governmental
and non-governmental organizations will take part in organizing this event.
A special discussion on the 57th
Vesak Festival was held in the auditorium of the Prime Minister’s Office today
(09) on the instructions of the Prime Minister.
Taking part of 1000 school children
and 2000 adults in the sheela vyaparaya in the Yudaganawa Raja Maha Viharaya
was discussed in the discussion. The Organization Committee has taken measures
to provide all the requirements including dana, water and sanitary facilities
for those participating in this sheela vyaparaya.
Cash prizes will be granted to the
winning children from the Bhakthi Geetha competition held at regional and
district Shasanarakshaka Balamandala levels in this festival. Commissioner
General of Buddhist Affairs Mr. Chandraprema Gamage informed that it has been
decided to grant prizes to the winners of the Veask lantern competition as well.
In parallel to the State Vesak
Festival, arrangements have been made to construct a fully equipped library in
the Yudaganawa Raja Maha Vihara premises and 11 houses in all Divisional
Secretariats in Moneragala district under “Sasunin Sevana” project, to grant
scholarships for the students who secured first places at district level skill
completion and to issue of a Vesak stamp and a Vesak souvenir and many other
activities.
